Memorial Day is here. Here are some simple tips you can apply to make this holiday a hit.

As we’re wrapping up our work week and preparing for the Memorial Day weekend. GET YOUR MIND RIGHT! Yes,I said it. There’s going to be a lot of food prepared and meat grilling but don’t overdose. You’ve been sticking to the plan, eating good and healthy and on point with your exercise regimen. Don’t fall off the bandwagon. Here’s a few tips to stay on course this Memorial Day weekend.

1. EAT BEFORE YOU GO TO THE BBQ- going to the bbq on an empty stomach will only entice you to over indulge.

2. DRESS TO IMPRESS- go to the bbq looking good with your best outfit on. This may inspire you to not stuff your face and have to unbutton your pants to breathe while you’re socializing.

3. WATCH YOUR PORTIONS- There’s nothing wrong with “sampling” all of your favorites on this weekend’s menu. Its the continuous nibbling that will get you in trouble. Stay aware of how many ribs, burgers and wings you’re plopping on your place and try to keep a reasonable limit to your portions with a small plate instead of the big dinner plates. Also, watch the sauces and dips even though its the cook’s special bbqrecipe. Your summer wardrobe will appreciate it.

4. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE- I know you’re thinking because its the holiday, you can hydrate with your favorite friends, CIRCOC, HENNY and BOMBAY but let’s keep it simple with H2O. If you do indulge, balance it out with a glass of water for each alcoholic drink you’re planning on drinking.

5. MORE SOCIALIZING, LESS STUFFING- Its a long weekend so enjoy it by catching up with old friends and making new ones at the gathering. Don’t be a motor-mouth but socializing more will keep you away from the food tables and stuffing your mouth with unnecessary calories that you’ll regret.

Be safe and enjoy your Memorial Day with family and friends.day

The Grammys had Soy Bomb, the VMAs had Kanye West, the Oscars had that purple-shirted crazy redheaded woman, and now “American Idol” has Ian Benardo, the latest famous interrupter in live television history.

On Wednesday’s Season 9 “Idol” finale, fur-vested freakboy Ian stole the show (and the microphone) from fellow “Idol” rejects Tatiana Del Toro, Renaldo Lapuz, and Norman Gentle, not to mention Dane Cook, during Dane’s musical tribute to Simon Cowell. None of those rejects were supposed to talk during Dane’s skit, but that hardly stopped the mouthy Ian from spotaneously interjecting mid-song. “Nobody cares! It’s all about Ian Benardo tonight!” he sassily declared. “And I’m replacing you, Simon Cowell, because I’m more entertaining than you!”

The Super Bowl will be in NJ in 2010

Heat and humidity in the late summer days? Football weather. Crisp and cool air of autumn? Football weather. Mud? Sleet? Snow? Football weather. You deal with the elements in football, you change your game plan, you adapt and attack and you persevere.

That’s the beauty of the game. No rain delays. No complaining either.

The NFL is going to test this theory. The league announced Tuesday afternoon it will stage its 2014 Super Bowl at the new Meadowlands stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., rather than at the sites of traditional Florida finalists Miami and Tampa.

The state of the art, $1.6 billion New Jersey facility is expected to be magnificent. It just doesn’t have a roof.

For football fans that means more than how cool it would be to stage the Commissioner’s Party at the American Museum of Natural History. The Super Bowl is a television show and the fact nearby Manhattan can throw the swankiest events ever has little bearing on life.

That the NFL is going to put the all-weather-is-football-weather theory to the test does. Rather than play the game inside a dome (temp: 72 degrees) or in a generally warm, soft climate, it may snow or rain or blow or just be bitterly cold for the game. Or it may not.

No one knows. And as anyone who knows anything about Jersey weather can attest, no one will know until kickoff. And then things may change by the second quarter.

Conventional wisdom – perhaps because of domes – says that temperate, calm and dry conditions are the most ideal to determine the best football team.

Well, it can be. And so can a snow drift or a driving rain or a field of slush or outrageous humidity.

Football is a game of survival, guile, desperation and strategy. It is a game of constantly changing variables and the athletes and coaches who maximize the present situation best tend to thrive. You have to be tough to play football. No one ever said anything about comfortable.

Inclement weather may, indeed, alter the way the game is played. So does clement weather though. Perhaps mild temps favor a passing team. Or clear ground aids a running attack or a particularly shifty wide receiver. Or the lack of wind helps a strong kicking game. Or it helps a weak one.

If precipitation is a factor then so is the absence of precipitation.

A football team that can’t deal with the elements in a Super Bowl isn’t much of a team. This can add a challenge to the game and can bring more drama. It can make things like field position and direction of play and importance of seizing an opportunity even greater.

Some of the NFL’s best games have been kissed by snowflakes – from Cleveland to Chicago to Foxborough. Arguably the most famous game in history was the 1967 Ice Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys. The game-time wind chill in Wisconsin was 48 degrees below zero.

Who needs a pleasant sunny day? This is football; pride still matters.

Unless you take the game indoors, you never know anyway. In 2007, the Super Bowl was played under a deluge of South Florida rain. The Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears just dealt with it.

For the first time during a Super Bowl, fans had to endure rain during the Colts-Bears contest.

Some owners who voted against playing in New York/New Jersey expressed concerns about getting all the fans to the game.

“The idea of cold weather certainly doesn’t scare us,” Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti told the New York Daily News. “The idea of a two-foot snowstorm does. You really have to wonder if logistically it’s possible the darn thing could get postponed. I don’t think you could get 70,000 people into the Meadowlands in a two-foot snowstorm in New York.”

Postponed? Please. As long as the television cameras can turn on, they’ll play it. No one is returning the commercial money. Besides, if getting to the game was a real threat, then the Super Bowl never should’ve been awarded to cities such as Detroit, Minneapolis, Indianapolis and even Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth, where February ice storms occur.

This is the Super Bowl, if there are two feet of snow, then the full power of the federal, state and local governments (not to mention about a million volunteers) will clear a path to the Meadowlands.

This is important stuff, not like some oil spill or something.

As for the concern about the cold weather on all the pre-Super Bowl festivities, hey, cry me a Hudson River. Celebrity comfort trumping the actual playing of the game is the ultimate tail-wagging-the-dog scenario.

Just buy Paris Hilton a jacket.

Best of all, the New York experiment could pave the way for the sport’s premier game to spread around the country. It took the full economic might of New York City to break this barrier down, but now that it has, why not Denver or Chicago or Boston or Washington or Pittsburgh or pretty much anywhere?

The truth is the NFL’s rotation of host cities isn’t deep. No stadium in California is considered modern enough. They want improvements in Miami. Arizona has some political deals going that are a factor (that’s a reality, whether you agree or not).

So the league can stick to a small rotation or give this a shot and disprove conventional wisdom.

The hope here isn’t for a warm, dry winter day. It’s for snow to start dropping down on Bruce Springsteen’s halftime act to make the second half even more compelling.

Because weather doesn’t make football better or worse; it just makes it football.

You can look forever young too. Find out what tips Beverly Johnson suggests.

In 1974, supermodel Beverly Johnson made history as Vogue’s first African-American cover girl, paving the way for other black supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks.

Here are some of her most treasured anti-aging secrets for skin, hair, diet and exercise.

Secret #1: Younger-Looking Skin

Beverly swears by inexpensive, tried-and-true drugstore products like petroleum jelly and baby oil, to keep her skin looking dewy and wrinkle-free. She slathers them on before and after showering and recommends focusing on dry areas like elbows, knees and the heels of your feet. She also takes cod liver oil tablets, known to nourish skin and nails, a secret handed down by her mother.

Secret #2: Keeping Hair Strong and Beautiful

Beverly combats dull hair with biotin, a B vitamin found in legumes, egg yolks and milk, and also available in supplement form. Biotin is prized for promoting hair growth and preventing thinning hair.

Secret #3: Shape-Saving Diet and Exercise Tips

Beverly’s fitness secret is all about keeping both the body and mind young. A passionate golfer, Beverly recommends picking a sport you really love so exercise is an enjoyable activity, not work. In terms of diet, “Every day is a battle,” she says. “That cookie is there, that popcorn is there. But I’m on top of it.”

There was a lot going on at the State dinner at The White House including a fall down some steps.

There were a Desperate Housewife, an Olympic speedskater and two New York Jets, but apparently no gatecrashers Wednesday night at President Obama’s second state dinner — though a limo bearing Tareq and Michaele Salahi, the infamous gate-crashers from last year’s state dinner, was ticketed for running a red light not far from the White House.

That was as close as the evening came to unanticipated drama. At the event — held to mark the visit of Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife, Margarita Zavala — the White House doubled down on security, checking guests’ names and invitations not just once or twice, but at least three times on their way into the party. Administration officials didn’t want a repeat of the drama from November’s state dinner, when three people, including the Salahis, apparently sneaked into the White House sans invite.

The only moment that wasn’t closely monitored and choreographed by event planners occurred just before the dinner proper, when the White House protocol chief Capricia Penavic Marshall fell on the steps outside as the president and the first lady were being photographed on the red carpet. You can watch that moment here:

The never ending rollercoaster of losing weight has a lot of men and most women frantic on a regular basis. We pay close attention to celebrities, reality stars and quick ways to drop the pounds. Jenny Craig, Weigh Watchers and Nutrisystem have spent millions of marketing and advertising dollars posting celebrity endorsed campaigns coercing and tempting the lean-challenged individuals to join their program for a new weight loss journey. Valerie Bertinelli, QueenLatifah, Marie Osmond, Phylicia Rashad and Jennifer Hudson have been outstanding spokespersons and have motivated me and many others to get motivated to lose the weight. Even as each campaign has been great and motivating, when the Queen of Everything, Oprah Winfrey says something as profound as “I’m never Dieting again,” people want to know what moved Oprah to say that. Loyal fans are curious to what triggered her epiphany and cured her infamous yo-yo dieting issues. From quick fixes to lifestyle changes, Oprah has been consistently gaining and losing weight for years; a problem that many Americans share.

The May 12th episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” seemed to have affected her so deeply that it brought her to tears. Who was responsible for this epiphany? A woman named Geneen Roth, author of “Women Food and God.” Since this New York Times bestseller hit the market, it has been embraced by women across the globe.

During the taping of the show, Oprah had an epiphany about the relationship with food and the relationship with whatever is going on in your life; the goodness that you feel and the alignment that you feel (when things are working out well for yourself) is in direct proportion to how close you are to what Roth calls GOD.

Your disconnection from the center of yourself is the reason for all of your problems, including the problem with food.

Oprah shared an excerpt from the book that changed her life: “We turn to food when we are not hungry because we are hungry for something we cannot name. A connection to what is beyond the concerns of daily life, something sacred. But replacing the hunger for a divine connection with Double Stuff Oreos is like giving a glass of sand to a person who’s dying of thirst.”

The more you recognize your inner problems, anxiety or discomfort, the better your relationship will be not only with food but of course with your soul. You’ll be happier, and the weight will fall off more naturally.

“You keep trying to feed yourself with that which cannot feed you,” Oprah said. “I turn to food because if I deal with whatever it is I have to deal with in the moment, I’m going to fall apart.”

Oprah left viewers with a burning question that she has clearly asked herself many times. “Look into the mirror, and look deep into your eyes,” she said. “Look beyond the flaws and the blemishes, look right through to your soul and ask yourself: What do you see? And can you begin to love that?”
