HAITI– Former singer Michel Martelly was sworn in Saturday as Haiti’s new president, promising change in a impoverished country still recovering from last year’s devastating earthquake.

HAITI-Michel Martelly is the new president of Haiti according to Reuters. Reuters reports that Martelly won Haiti’s Presidential election according to official preliminary results.
Martelly is also know as “Sweet Micky,” after his Kompa band. He is friends with former Haitian President, President René Préval Martelly was supporter of the 1991 coup that ousted President Jean Bertrand Aristide and of the now disbanded Haitian military group FAd’H.
