This Day In Black History: Obama Elected President Of U.S.

Three years ago to the day on November 4th, 2008, Barack Obama was elected the first African American President of the United States.

The day was historic for many not just in the United States, but across the globe as people of African descent rejoiced America turning the page and electing one of its own.

The Democratic candidate was the first African-American to be nominated by a major party tallying 365 electoral votes

Top GOP Contenders Rival Obama On Gallup Polls

A new Gallup poll shows that if the election were to happen today, the top four GOP presidential contenders would run a tightly contested race against President Obama.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads Obama, 48 to 46 percent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry ties the president at 47 percent each, and the others 2 contenders trail at a total of 6 percentage points.

President Obama And His Family Attend Church

On Sunday The First Family attended a church nearby the White House frequently visited by presidents.

Accompanied by his wife first lady Michelle, and daughters Sasha and Malia, Obama walked through Lafayette Square to attend the 10:30 morning service at St. John’s Church.

The president wore a dark-colored suit, while the first-lady and Malia wore shades of purple, and Sasha a floral green and white dress.
